Cecil B. DeMille (1881 - 1959)
Yesterday we drove to Kent and met up with Tina, Joel and Zak and had breakfast with Ben and Chelsea. It was nice to see them and that they survived their first week at college. Afterwards we went back to the dorm to check out Ben’s room again and it was still clean. We took a ride the the City of Kent to see what was around town. It is a unique, typical college town. It was nice seeing Ben and Chelsea. I still miss Ben not being next door. Today their classes start.
Just look at the smiles on those faces!!!!!!!
That was the feelings going around all day yesterday as we moved Ben down to Kent State. It was a family affair. Along with Rich, Lisa and I, there was John, Uncle Dave, Jessica, David and Anthony.
Ben had the truck loaded up quite early in anticipation of the move. He and John rode down in the truck.
As soon as we got there Ben went to the registration desk. John went along with him to see the happenings since he will be doing it in a couple of weeks when he goes off to college.
The rest of us rode down in Norma’s van. Since there were so many of us and plus the fact that boys don’t have as much stuff as girls, we were able to make one trip.
Dave pushed the cart. Jessica figuring out what is going to happen to her in four years.
David wanted to check out all the mail boxes and try to figure out there combinations.
After we got everything moved in and unpacked we started to arrange things. Now you have to imagine this room. Clearly it was meant for only one person. Well at one time we had 7 adults and 2 kids in there. Finally it got too much for me so I went down the hall and just propped my feet up and relaxed until they were done.
Like every move, you plan and try to make sure you got everything but something is always forgotten. Such was this case. Dave, Rich and the kids headed home with the plan that Rich would go get the things we forgot and drive back down to pick us up.
With that plan underway we decided to walk to the cafeteria and have lunch where we met up with Chelsea and some of her friends but not before visiting the book store where Lisa bought this cute t-shirt that she will proudly wear.
Lisa wanted to take a picture right before we left. It was hard for her leaving Ben there but it was what she set out to accomplish 20 years ago, to raise her boys to be responsible young adults and start their own lives. She took a lot of pride raising theses two boys. Always there for them, fighting for their cause, trying to teach them right from wrong. We all know that it’s not easy at times. Yes I would say that Lisa did an excellent job at her number one job of being a mother and I know that my grandsons are grateful that she was so determined. Congratulations Lisa!!!! You should be proud of the boys!!!!!!!
Today was one of the most beautiful days we’ve had in a long time. Too nice to do work. The day started out with this bowl of grapes that Rich decided would make a nice picture.
Don’t they look good enough to eat.
Then we decided to take the Mustang out and go for a ride. Gas prices did come down a bit after all. So we headed for Lakewood Park in Lakewood. Down by the lake. What a beautiful park and the lake looked so calm and peaceful today.
Some one enjoying their boat and what a beautiful view of downtown Cleveland from across the lake.
They made a lot of changes at the park since I was there last. Lisa used to take Ben and John there all the time when they were little. We walked the brick path which was new before Rich got tired and had to take a nap.
On the way back he spotted this really old Birch tree so he had to take a picture of it. On the way home we stopped at a Romanian festival. I’ve decided I don’t like Romanian food. It was such a wonderful day.
Sometimes you just want to put time in a bottle so it doesn’t go by so fast. I just finished reading Tina's blog and I started thinking of all the changes that will be coming our way. Even though we are only grandparents we have always been so involved.
Since the day Ben and John were born they always lived by me. They are so much a part of our life. We went through all the stages with them. From the wrestling shows they used to watch here, to the lego’s they used to hide around my house, to the candy wrappers they used to put under my couch, to the Goth dress, black hair, long hair, and finally back to a buzz haircut, grandparents day, school concerts, getting their driver’s license, graduating and the constant worrying about them
Now they are both headed off to college. Two brothers. Off on their separate ways and I am sure they will miss each other as well. I will miss them.
And then there is Chelsea. She has become a big part of our lives for the last three plus years. Always so bubbly and energetic. She won’t be coming over to take a shower or use Rich’s shampoo and not put it back or eat our fruit or ask for my Fiber One bars. I found myself keeping a supply here for her in case she would come over and actually looking forward to them coming over looking for something to eat. It was one of those things that you silently enjoyed. I will miss her.
Yes it is sad. But not sad for them. This is such a very exciting time for them. A time to grow into productive adults. .
Then we have Jessica who is entering high school in the fall and even has a boyfriend. How can that be? I don’t know. Last time I looked she was a little girl. And Anthony going to Kindergarten. I know that Norma will have a hard time with that. David and Anthony are still young enough to need us for their candy and popsicles but that won’t last too much longer I’m sure but I am certainly going to enjoy it as long as I can.
Yes it would be nice to put time in a bottle. Who would it be nice for? Me and Rich of course. But they have to all grow up and spread their wings and fly. That’s what life is all about.
God bless them and keep them safe
I received this from a friend of mine and I thought it was worth posting on my blog.
